Don’t Listen To Disney

18 08 2011

The Dating World can be a difficult place to survive in. It can be very trying to come out of the experience of dating with positive results. And to this, I attribute the brainwashing powers of the Walt Disney corporation. Sure Disney is a fantastic fantasy world, host to children’s hopes and dreams, but many of their lessons about True Love should not be taken to heart.

Look; I love Disney just as much, if not more than your average five year old girl, but I also know that this is simply brainwashing. Sure, you can dream all you want about your Prince Charming, but it’s likely he won’t just appear unless you go and do something about it. But that’s not my real issue with Disney’s misleading messages.

Disney movies show us that for each princess is a prince. That’s all fine and dandy but in reality, we’re not royalty. Of course we should want our own metaphorical prince or princess and live happily ever after, but I don’t think children think that abstractly. Because of this loss in translation, I believe that a lot of women grow up thinking they can go on breaking hearts in the Dating World, in pursuit of their Dream Man.

Look here ladies, don’t hold out for your Dream Man. Just be with whoever makes you happy. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from teetering on the edge of becoming a serial dater, it’s just that. Sure, I’ve become the kind of girl who dates to discover what I don’t want, but at some point, you need to figure out what you do want as well. I’m not saying I’ve found that yet, but I have finally learned how to be happy with what you’ve got.

I’m pretty sure this could be my new anthem:
