Arts

For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in some form of art. I have loved the visual arts since I was a baby. I’ve taken countless art classes in and out of school.  In middle school I got involved doing technical theatre and continued throughout high school. I went to college and majored in Graphic Design. I minored in Art History. I currently work as a Graphic Designer.

But enough about me. (Just kidding. This is my blog, remember? ha) I love finding and seeing street art and graffiti. I love going to art museums. My favorite art museums are The American Art Museum (DC), The Hirshorn (DC), The Victoria & Albert (London), The Design Museum (London),  The Cooper-Hewitt (NYC), The Whitney (NYC), Museum of Modern Art (MOMA, NYC).  I love modern art. I love Art Nouveau. I love Modernist Art (yes, it’s different from modern art). Some favorite artists include: Andy Warhol, Wayne Thiebaud, Ellsworth Kelly, Alphonse Mucha, Vik Muniz, Man Ray…

Aside from the visual arts, I am a huge theatre fan. Everyone in my family has done some sort of theatre. For me, it has been tech; set building and painting, make-up, props, running crew, program design…I have seen a lot of shows in my time. Some favorites include: No Exit, Waiting For Godot, The Bald Soprano, Ubu, In The Heights, Jesus Christ Super Star, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof…

And then there is the music aspect of my life. Music is HUGE for me. Everyone in my family has at one point played an instrument. One of my brothers is majoring in music at college. He plays the alto, soprano, tenor, and baritone saxes, bass clarinet, piano, and probably many other instruments I can’t always keep track of. My other brother plays trombone. My mom plays piano. Everyone in my family (excluding my dad) can sing well. I have always lived with musicians, too. Every year of college, at least one of my (up to four) roommates has been a musician/music major. I took piano lessons for upwards of 8 years. I consider myself pretty good. I also have played the electric bass guitar since early high school. In college, I bought myself a ukulele and have been on and off, trying to teach myself how to play it. I am also a very experienced kazoo player!

I’m not sure what this category will include. I’m pretty sure I’ll include some photos of street art/graffiti. Maybe I’ll discuss some art exhibits or theatre shows I’ve seen. Or maybe I will post some of my own artwork.
