Caps Win A Dirty Dozen!

5 02 2010

Last night’s win over the Rangers was a great game for so many reasons.

It should come as no surprise that in today’s Washington Post; front page, above the fold, was a fantastic picture of Alex “the Great” Ovechkin to celebrate his 500th point. Among the many amazing goals of Ovie, last night revealed another highlight reel goal. I’ll take you through it. Alex gets the puck from a long pass across the ice from Backstrom, gets tied up by Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival, puts the puck between the guy’s legs, gets the puck back in control, and with only one hand on the stick, fires a shot on the net at a crazy angle where if it was one inch wider, would have missed the net, but gets tapped in by the goal post. Check it out:

In addition, one of my favorite players, cutie, Boyd Gordon got his second goal in two straight games. For a player who rarely scores, it is great to see that Gordo’s gotten on the scoring bandwagon.

Gordon celebrates with Steckel after his 3rd goal of the season.

And there’s the father of the team (age-wise), Michigan-home games, “KNUUUUUUUUUBLE!”) “Knuble’s goal was his 10th in his last 11 games and his 20th of the season. This marks the seventh consecutive season in which Knuble has reached the 20-goal,” writes Caps beat writer, Mike Vogel. Looks like K-Nubs is on a roll!

Aside from the standout players from last night, let’s not forget that this was also the 12th straight win for the resilient Caps. According to Mike Vogel, “The victory extended Washington’s franchise-record winning streak to a dozen straight games. It is the longest streak in the NHL since the lockout…” Tonight, the Caps website is calling for “Friday the 13th,” as the Caps seek their 13th consecutive win. Let’s hope the forthcoming blizzard doesn’t postpone/cancel the game! Go Caps!
