The Goodbye Kiss

What’s the point of a “courteous/goodbye kiss”? You know, like, a “thanks for the good time, I’m interested in you” kiss? It’s somewhere above a handshake and more intimate than a hug, but why a kiss?

To make it more complicated, there are two types: on the cheek and on the lips. I guess the cheek will seem less official, yet the fact that the initiator  is using their lips for the point of contact, still constitutes it as a kiss. (You also have the issue of lack of formality as stated in this previous post to grapple with.) But it’s far more casual than the seemingly-popular-yet-still-tries-to-be-casual lips-to-lips kiss.

Why would you opt for the exciting lips-lips kiss if you were trying to still be cool and casual? Especially if the kiss is “planned” to be very brief –what’s the point of kissing your opponent’s lips? If you’re just kissing for less than a second, why would you “go in for the kill” of having lip-to-lip at all?

Is it to entice your participant? To tell them there’s more where that came from? Why can’t you seduce someone with a cheek kiss? Maybe it’s because the cheek isn’t as sensitive. But still, if it’s for such a short period of time, and it’s so casual, I don’t see how the degree of sensitivity could matter…

My kisses don’t last for just a second.

That’s all I have to say about that.
