The Pittsburgh Peach Fuzz

5 05 2009

Where: Washington, D.C.

When: last night, Monday, May 4, 2009.

What: Caps playoffs: Round Two, Game Two vs. Pittsburgh Penguins.

Let’s recap:

  • Alex Ovechkin had his first career playoff hat trick!!!
  • Sidney Crosby apparently complained to the refs about Ovechkin’s hat trick celebration in D.C., saying it was over the top and too long and that they should get back to the game. What a sore loser.
  • Caps won 4-3!
  • Dave Steckel scored his second playoff goal in only 2 games!
  • The win was at home…so go Caps fans too!
  • Oh yeah….that kid, Sidney Crosby also scored a hat trick.
  • –Which marked the first time in 3 years that two players recorded a hat trick in a playoff game!
  • Evgeni Malkin continued to be close to non-existent.
  • I’d like to point out here that whereas the Penguins’ goals were solely contributed by one player, the Caps not only used another player to score, but a “second-tier” scorer at that. Nice job with the varied goal scorers!
  • Simeon Varlamov continues to be a monster in stopping goals.
  • This series is the only one among all series in Round 2 which currently isn’t tied 1-1. (Caps lead this series 2-0!)
  • Sergei Federov set a new record for most points in the playoffs.

The Caps head to Pittsburgh tomorrow (Wednesday) night to try for their third win. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Also, somebody should tell Sidney Crosby what a playoff beard really is. Real men don’t  aim for Peach Fuzz.
