The Caps = Sell Outs

5 03 2009

I just went to the Ticketmaster box office at the Verizon Center to try and buy some/any tickets to Caps games for the rest of the season. There are 6 more home games of the regular season. The cheapest regular priced tickets (without any special offer such as student discount or family packs) are at least $80! Geeze.

On one hand, I think that that is really crazy. The regular season ends in the second week of April, and already those games (a month away) are close to sold out. I have never heard of such a thing…at least in Washington, D.C.

On the other hand, I shouldn’t be too surprised. The Caps are playing amazingly well this year (with the exception of the past few games. We need a new goalie with Jose Theodore out with the flu and Brent Johnson out from knee surgery). We have been a consistent 4th place in the whole league lately. Think about it: just a few years ago, the Caps were one of the worst teams in the league. Quite the comeback, if you ask me.

So it’s a mixed blessing. I couldn’t be happier or more proud of my home town hockey team, but at the same time, it would be nice to support them in person by going to more of their games.  Oh well, I guess now’s the time to start buying tickets for next year!
