Super Bowl Sunday’s Better Game

2 02 2009

I don’t know what everyone else was focusing on, yesterday on TV, but the Caps had one of their best performances this year. (Actually, all weekend the Caps were dominating on their home turf. Saturday’s game, they beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2, with Alex Ovechkin scoring the last 2 goals. I was there and it was AMAZING.)

Sunday, the Caps had their second matinee game in a row, starting the action at 12:30 p.m. They played against the Ottawa Senators, led by star captain, Daniel Alfredsson. The Caps rounded off their weekend home stand with an awesome 7-4 win. Highlight goals include Alexander Semin’s breakaway goal in the second period (with a crazy assist from Mike Green who tossed the puck through the air, for Semin to bat down with his stick on his way to the net); an unbelievable empty net goal at the end of the game by Nicklas Backstrom which he scored from the other end of the ice –the puck flew across the entire length of the rink and with perfect aiming, went into the Sen’s empty net; all this without forgetting Alex Ovechkin’s hat trick halfway into the game! WOAH.

So basically, if you compare this amazing and stunning performance of strength, endurance, and skill to a boring and slow-moving football game interspersed with high quality commercials and a memorable half-time concert by Bruce Springsteen, I’m pretty sure you can see why the main sporting event on Sunday was no doubt Caps Hockey.
